Catastrophe Team

Claim Representative

• Investigates, evaluates, negotiates, and settles claims
• Verifies coverage, legal liability, and extent of damage to people and property
• Prepares computerized estimates in loss settlements
• Answers insurance-related questions from callers

Claim Processor

• Applies claims settlement procedures to process claims assigned by claim management, claim representatives, and/or electronic assignment
• Provides assistance to claim representatives by initiating claim payments, and/or closing assigned files, as directed
• Recognizes, refers, and processes subrogation of claims
• Answers insurance-related questions from callers

Estimator (Auto and Structural)

• Inspects damaged vehicles and/or structures
• Prepares auto and/or structural repair estimates and interprets estimates for owners
• Determines actual cash value in total loss cases
• Maintains knowledge of repair practices, structural design, and acceptable and satisfactory work by mechanic or metal finisher (auto)

Health Claim Examiner

• Evaluates, investigates, and processes Health insurance claims in accordance with claim procedures and legislative/regulatory requirements
• Interprets policy provisions to determine appropriate coverage
• May provide training for claims and/or other operation personnel 
• Works with customers, State Farm agents, attorneys, medical providers, and other insurance companies to resolve health insurance claims

Life Claim Examiner

• Works with beneficiaries, State Farm Agents, attorneys, medical providers, other insurance companies, and medical examiners, in the investigation and settlement of Life Insurance claims.
• Evaluates medical history and autopsy findings in paying benefits according to the policy contract wording.
• Determines eligibility for disability benefits under Life Insurance contracts with Waiver of Premium Disability riders.
• Handles all State Farm group life insurance claims and commercial group life claims.

Property and Casualty (Auto)

More than 5,000 associates represent State Farm Auto Underwriting Operations. Our work includes:

• Supporting Zone underwriting practices by creating policies and formulating policies relating to the underwriting process
• Monitoring compliance with the policies
• Assisting the Actuarial Department with rating issues
• Monitoring proposed legislation that affects underwriting policies
• Working with IT/Systems to develop underwriting systems
• Providing training for Zone office underwriting employees

Property and Casualty (Fire)

More than 3,000 employees represent State Farm Fire Underwriting Operations. Our work includes:

• Supporting underwriting practices for Zone operations by formulating policies for the underwriting process
• Evaluating compliance with established polices
• Assisting Zone operations in specialty areas such as loss control, natural hazards, and premium auditing
• Providing education and training resources for Zones
• Working with IT/Systems to develop underwriting systems and programs

Health/Life Underwriter

• Reviews and processes Life/Health insurance applications using risk-assessment tools in accordance with underwriting procedures, guidelines, and legislative requirements
• Makes decisions in a logical, reasonable, and fair manner regarding Life.Health insurance risk classification
• Effectively communicates with agency partners, applicants, vendors, and coworkers
• Serves as a technical resource for agency personnel
