Catastrophe Team

Claim Representative
Investigates, evaluate, negotiates, and settles auto claims.

• Verifies coverage, legal liability, and extent of damage to persons and property.
• Prepares computerized estimates in loss settlements.
• Answers insurance-related questions from callers.
  

Claim Processor

• Applies claims settlement procedures to process claims assigned by Auto Claim Management, Claim Representatives, and/or electronic assignment.
• Provides assistance to Claim Representatives by initiating claim payments, and/or closing assign files, as directed.
• Recognizes, refers, and processes subrogation of claims.
• Answers insurance-related questions from callers.

Estimator (Automobile and Structural)

• Inspects damaged vehicles and/or structures.
• Prepares auto and/or structural repair estimates and interprets estimates to owners.
• Determines actual cash value in total loss cases.
• Maintains knowledge of repair practices, structural design, and acceptable and satisfactory work by mechanic or metal finisher (auto).

Health Claim Examiner

• Evaluates health insurance claims and determines payment codes and amounts.
• Interprets policy contracts and data to determine coverage.
• Reviews medical bills for reasonable and customary treatment as it relates to the policy contract.
• Works with insured’s, State Farm agents, attorney, medical providers, and other insurance companies to resolve health insurance claims.

General Underwriting

Property and Casualty (Auto)
More than 5,000 associates represent State Farm's Auto Underwriting Operations. The department supports regional underwriting practices by creating policies, formulating policies relating to the underwriting process. The department monitors compliance with the policies, assists the Actuarial Department with rating issues, monitors proposed legislation which affects underwriting policies. The department also works with Corporate Systems to develop underwriting systems and provides training for regional office underwriting personnel.

Property and Casualty (Fire)
More than 3,000 associates represent State Farm Insurance Fire Underwriting Operations. The Fire General Underwriting Department supports underwriting practices for the regional offices by formulating policies for the underwriting process, evaluating compliance with established polices, assisting regional offices in specialty areas such as loss control, natural hazards and premium auditing. The department also provides education and training resources to the regions, and works with the Systems area to develop underwriting systems and programs.

Health
The Health General Underwriting Department:

• Provides support, service, and direction to the Health zone operations
• Performs a periodic quality review and evaluation process in the underwriting areas
• Develops, updates, and communicates underwriting philosophy and procedures
• Reviews state and federal legislation, which may effect Health underwriting
• Works with Corporate Systems areas to design and update system enhancements
