Location: Illinois
Career Path: Intern à Analyst
Previous Educationà University of Illinois
I first became involved with State Farm only one year ago as an intern in Global Business Analysis at the Champaign Research Center. As an intern, it was really great to know that the information I was working on was being used as a resource for all different levels of State Farm and that I helped other State Farm employees have a better understanding of industry competitors. During my internship, I had the opportunity to write the property & casualty monthly competitor updates (MCUs). This gave me the opportunity to learn about different companies throughout the insurance industry. In addition to the MCUs, I also have written competitor profiles on various companies within the P&C and financial services industries.
One year after completing my internship, I started my career as a Global Business Analyst. Although my current role in the Global Business Department is the continued research of State Farm’s competitors as before, I never feel like I am trapped in the same position. Due to its tremendous size, State Farm has so many job opportunities in so many different cities across America. It seems that no matter what a person is interested in, they can find something that fills that interest at State Farm be it journalism, actuarial science, recruiting, art, healthcare, etc.
Not only are career paths at State Farm diverse, but projects as well. I once worked on a project about Takaful insurance, a type of insurance designed to comply with the guidelines of the Islamic faith. Currently, there are only three companies in North America that offer Takaful, and I thought it was fascinating to learn about the Muslim religion, as well as this new type of insurance. This project makes clear the incredible resources available as a State Farm employee and information hubs that State Farm employees have access to. There is a wealth of knowledge available to seek out here!
