Department/Concise Job Description/Years Spent at State Farm BCC/Supervisor/3-1/2 years

After surviving 2 bank mergers as an assistant vice president in the Credit Services Division for a local bank and then as a vice president for a credit union, I wanted something new. I was lucky enough to stumble upon an opportunity at State Farm Bank while it was growing and expanding. I started as a Bank Supervisor for the open accounts Mid-Stage area at the Bank Collections Center.
While I was the supervisor of the bank remarketing area it brought forth interesting opportunities. During the economic downturn, I could see that the dealer auctions that we were remarketing our vehicles through were not bringing what I felt they should to help lessen the financial impact on our customers. I came up with the idea of remarketing on the internet. After researching vendors and taking the appropriate steps, I brought the new vendor aboard and we are seeing a sizable increase in the sales dollars which is a great benefit for customers who have been negatively impacted by the economy. It was one of the most interesting projects I have championed at the company.
I believe the greatest thing about State Farm is the work environment itself. State Farm has a rich history tied to small towns across the United States and people have so much pride in their jobs. The company invests in their people, knowing that it’s the people who make all the difference in how the company is perceived. There is also almost an unwritten kinship between all State Farm employees that emits trust outside of the workplace. I was grocery shopping and was at the checkout without my store card. There was a State Farm employee behind me in line and offered her card so I could get the discounts. She said after all we both work for State Farm!
I feel that I’ve truly made a difference in people’s lives through this kinship by mentoring. I have supervised several employees that were not performing and had not responded well to previous supervisors. One young man was so depressed when I became his supervisor that he was ready to leave State Farm. I felt he had so much potential and let him know that I believed in him. We worked together to improve his performance and within 6 months he was a solid performer and was selected for a great position in another area at State Farm. He is happy that he stayed. I have a knack for engaging people who are under achievers and have seen all of them succeed and advance to other areas within State Farm. It is an amazing feeling knowing that you can help people realize their full potential, which go hand in hand with State Farm’s commitment to its employees.
