Created in February 2002, the Meharry-State Farm Alliance is an ideal collaboration forged to address a critical public health problem: The disparities in seat belt and child seat use among African Americans. The primary goal of the Alliance is to increase the use of passenger restraints in order to save lives and reduce the severity of injuries from motor vehicle crashes among African Americans.
