Flood Insurance Reform and Modernization Act: Representative Maxine Waters introduced this bill which contains many reforms of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). These include increased coverage limits, additional living expenses, modernization of existing flood maps, and the addition of wind coverage. We support this legislation but believe including wind coverage in the NFIP policy would add to, rather than solve, some of the fundamental problems with the existing program by creating huge potential liabilities for a program that's already $17.5 billion in the red.
