State Farm® Notifies Employment Applicants of Security Incident

Bloomington, Illinois, August 22, 2008 -- State Farm recently discovered a problem in its online employment application system.  As a result, 13,400 applicants will receive notice that some personal information may have been at risk. There is no indication any information was misused in any way. State Farm is also offering one year of credit monitoring services to impacted individuals at no charge.

The portion of the application at risk was immediately disabled until after the problem was resolved.

“Our response to this incident is consistent with State Farm’s commitment to keeping customer, agent, employee and potential employee information secure,” said Mary Schmidt, Vice President-Human Resources.

State Farm launched a new online employment application on statefarm.com® and statefarm.ca® in March. Since then, 64,749 people in the United States and Canada have applied for jobs online. Only 13,400 people completed the next phase of the employment process by providing additional personal information.
