Bloomington, IL, March 5, 2009 -- State Farm® Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ed Rust Jr. recently received the 2009 Friends of National Service Citizen Service Award for his personal commitment to service and State Farm’s support of national service learning.
“Serving others and serving my community is a family value I grew up with; a value that’s also part of the culture of the company I’ve lead for the past 24 years,” Rust said.
State Farm’s educational partnerships and Rust’s focus on improving public education contributed to Rust’s nomination.
Rust accepted the award from Voices for National Service earlier this year during a ceremony held in Washington, D.C.
“State Farm is proud to put the focus on service and in particular service-learning as a way to help our communities thrive, as a way to empower, engage, and enlist young people as active participants in society,” Rust said.
The Voices For National Service is a coalition of national service organizations, including Americorp, Voices for National Service and The National Association of Service and Conservation Corps.
Other honorees include General Colin Powell and Alma Powell; U.S. Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga.; and U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn.
