State Farm® is Tops Among Insurers According to University of Michigan Study

Bloomington, Ill, Feb. 25, 2008 -- At a time when Americans seem to be generally dissatisfied with the goods and services they buy, a University of Michigan study puts State Farm Insurance on top for how it treats its customers.

State Farm’s score of 81 was first among insurers and consistent with the company’s score one year ago.

The University of Michigan’s American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) measures retail, finance and insurance, and e-commerce.  It reports scores on a 0-100 scale at the national level and produces indexes for 10 economic sectors, 43 industries (including e-commerce and e-business) and more than 200 companies and federal or local government agencies.  In addition to the company-level satisfaction scores, ACSI produces scores for the causes and consequences of customer satisfaction and their relationships. The measured companies, industries, and sectors are broadly representative of the U.S. economy serving American households.

State Farm’s score is part of an overall rise in figures for the Property & Casualty insurance sector.

“Property/casualty insurers seem to be on the right track with their customers,” said Claes Fornell, head of the ACSI.

The general score for all industries in the survey is 74.9, a decline of 4-tenths-of-one-percent over last year.  For more information about the Index, which is produced by the Ross School of Business, go to www.theacsi.org.
