Live Well, Be Well
The "Live Well, Be Well" initiative is designed to promote a culture of wellness across the State Farm family. As a retiree, you can take advantage of several of the programs being developed as part of this initiative. Living healthy means making good lifestyle decisions in areas such as physical activity, nutrition and preventative care; and avoiding addictive behaviors like smoking tobacco.
Healthy living can help you avoid illnesses, dramatically manage your healthcare expenses and improve, or possibly even save, your life as well as the lives of those you love. One way State Farm helps you manage the risks of everyday life is by providing benefits and programs that support wellness.
"State Farm cares about the health and wellness of each associate," noted Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer, Michael Tipsord, in a statement encouraging associates to get involved in wellness. "One of the best aspects of State Farm's culture is how we genuinely care about each other…for this reason we will all be a part of an on-going effort entitled Live Well, Be Well, to aid in your health and your wellness."
This year's wellness initiatives have received a great deal of senior level support. Chairman Ed Rust, Jr. and Pam El, Marketing Vice President, joined author and medical/diet expert, Dr. Ian Smith, at the initial kick-off event to extend the 50 Million Pound Challenge to all State Farm associates, including retirees.
Additional 2008 efforts, designed for employees and retirees alike, feature:
- An increased focus on exercise, nutrition and weight management, including a transition to healthier food options at all facilities, including State Farm Park.
- A conscious effort to provide resources for developing a healthier lifestyle, including monthly articles from Corporate Medical Director, Dr. Stephen Kindred and the Good Neighbor Healthy Living program.
- A State Farm partnership with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to offer its employees, agents and retirees an enhanced tobacco cessation benefit program.
"I am personally excited to see State Farm and its leadership demonstrating this kind of care and commitment to the health and wellness of all our associates," expressed Dr. Kindred. "It is not going to stop with the [50 million pound] challenge…You can expect to see the continuous, deliberate emphasis on health and wellness."
We believe it is important to help all of our associates maintain good health and well being, both during and after their time with us. Wellness is more than just a phase. It is a way of life. That is why we remain dedicated to empowering you to "Live Well, Be Well". |
