State Farm Bakersfield Wins WRAP Award for Green Efforts

Bakersfield Mayor Harvey Hall presents the WRAP award to State Farm as Javier Bermea looks on.

For the fourth consecutive year, the State Farm Insurance Company Bakersfield Operations Center is a recipient of the 2010 Cal Recycle Waste Reduction Award Program (WRAP).

By incorporating waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and buying recycled into daily business activities, State Farm helps to conserve scarce resources and influence the way it does business here in California.

This year’s WRAP winners diverted and estimated two million tons of recyclable waste from California landfills which equated to more than $190 million in cost savings.

Bakersfield Mayor Harvey Hall attended the January 12 City Council Meeting to present the coordinator of this recycling effort, State Farm Administrative Services Representative Javier Bermea, with the WRAP award. Also attending the presentation was State Farm Public Affairs Specialist Greg Sherlock.

“The award is the result of the State Farm California Green Team Committee’s efforts, the awareness and education we’ve provided our employees, and an overall increase in our employees’ procurement and recycling habits,” noted Bermea.

A 2011 goal for this operations center is to continue increasing employee awareness about recycling, and to assist State Farm’s other California offices with their procurement, recycling, and re-use efforts.
