Pomona Agent Nona Tirre Honored for Community Service

State Farm Agent Nona Tirre.

State Farm Agent Nona Tirre was recently honored as the 2011 Small Business of the Year within the City of Pomona. She was nominated by the Mayor of Pomona for her efforts in educating the community on the importance of insurance as well as for the time she has given volunteering with local non-profits within the community.

In June, Tirre will also receive the 2010 Member of the Year award from the Pomona Chamber of Commerce. The award is presented to a business that provided valuable services to the chamber through its committee work, demonstrating excellence in leadership and extraordinary support of the business community.

The awards are well-deserved. Tirre’s ongoing service to her community includes acting as an ambassador member on the Pomona Chamber of Commerce, as well as participation in Habitat for Humanity, Principal of the Day, LA Works Teen Mentorships, LA Works Older and Wiser Seminars, Run for Red, Beautification of Pomona, Taste of Pomona Valley, Pomona Christmas Parade, and acting as a volunteer for the PTA. She also provides financial literacy classes to local high schools and gives approved long term care seminars to aging adult organizations and their families.

“It was an honor to receive the Small Business of the Year award from Senator Gloria Negrete-Mcleod as well as receiving recognition from Assembly member Norma Torres,” Tirre said. “As a newer agent, I believe it’s important for me to demonstrate to the community that I’m serious about contributing to Pomona’s success.”

The sentiments of the City of Pomona, as well as the Pomona Chamber of Commerce, are echoed by Tirre’s State Farm leadership.

“Nona is a newer agent in the State Farm family, and has truly embraced the philosophy of being a good neighbor,” said State Farm Agency Field Executive Wally Shao. “We are very proud of her hard work and dedication to making State Farm a leader in her community.”
