State Farm Co-Sponsors Safety Awareness Day In Pasadena

Firefighters demonstrate how to use the Jaws of Life on a total loss vehicle donated by State Farm

Pasadena was recently host to Safety Awareness Day, a one-day event where children of all ages came to learn interesting, informative ideas to heighten their safety awareness. Co-sponsored by State Farm and Fix Auto®, the event was held at the local Armenian Community Center.

As a part of the demonstrations, State Farm Property Claim Trainer Teresa Waits brought in a total-loss vehicle for the Pasadena Fire Department to demonstrate how the Jaws of Life is used to extricate accident victims. The Pasadena Police Department also profiled a DUI Simulator. As people exited the drunk-driving simulation experience, the comment heard most often from participants was how surprised they were at how this experience negatively impacted their reaction times.

The State Farm Good Neigh Bear was teacher-for-a-day, assisting Waits by demonstrating to children how to safely cross a street. Throughout the event, State Farm also streamed safety-related information in the community center building, including the State Farm Steer Clear Program DVD. Other activities included a 911 Demonstration, a class on “Stranger Danger”, and Driving Safety Tips.

“It’s so important for us to be a part of this community,” said State Farm Agent Jack Matiossian. “The Safety Awareness Day event is a perfect fit for State Farm. If we can have an impact on one child, we’re making progress.”

State Farm Agent Jack Tahanian added, “It’s refreshing to see so many young people out here, truly interested in learning about safety. I was surprised by the quality of the questions they posed to the police and firemen.”

Additional State Farm associates contributing to this Safety Awareness Day included:

  • Sylvia Lopez, fire claim processor
  • Abel Muniz, fire claim representative
  • Felicia Van Frank, public affairs specialist
  • Carlos Pineda, agent team member

State Farm Claim Service Assistant Debbie Good attended this event with her teenage son, where he signed a pledge not to text and drive. “This is a great event, with activities for kids of all ages,” she said. “There truly was something for everyone.”
