State Farm Agent Julie Ngo and Public Affairs Specialist Felicia Van Frank recently presented a $5,000 grant to the Boys and Girls Club of Southwest County to assist the organization with its Project Learn Program.

In this program, children ages 6 - 18 receive comprehensive help with their homework. Often times the older students are assisting the younger ones with this work.

“State Farm’s mission is to help people manage the risks of everyday life, recover from the unexpected and realize their dreams,” said Ngo at the grant presentation. “The Project Learn program is a good fit for State Farm because it provides the children of Southwest Riverside County a safe environment where they can learn, improve their self esteem and forge relationships, giving them the tools to overcome obstacles, ultimately realizing their dreams.”

“We greatly appreciate the support that we have received from State Farm Insurance,” said Maryann Edwards, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest County. “Project Learn is a critical program that ensures our children get the academic support and enrichment to succeed in school. State Farm Insurance is an important partner in that success. This contribution will make an enormous difference in the lives of our kids and our community.”

“This program offers mentors who help our younger children achieve academic success as well as provide them with role models,” Ngo continued. “Mentoring – whether formal or informal – helps both mentor and mentee develop skill sets to become good citizens in adulthood. These skills are nurtured in these informal mentoring relationships created by Project Learn.”
