The Aztec Award, given by the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF),  recognizes civic, corporate, and community leaders who have contributed significantly to the progress of Latinos in the United States through their generous support or active participation in the struggle for equal opportunity. On October 7, State Farm was honored to receive the Aztec Award for Corporation of the Year — in recognition of its work in the Latino community to recruit agents.

The award is named after the ancient Aztec culture which was famous for astonishing achievements through art, architecture, astronomy, and engineering. In addition to receiving the Aztec Award, Congresswoman Judy Chu honored State Farm with her own recognition for our philanthropic work with the Latino community.

Vice President – Agency Ed Reyes accepted the award on behalf of State Farm. “It’s an honor to enjoy the relationship we have built with MAOF. It’s very clear to me that we have both a shared vision and mission in that we exist to help people live and thrive through education in safe and strong communities,” Reyes said. “We’re both committed to helping people discover opportunities to better themselves, and in doing so, inspire them to help others, and to see dreams being fulfilled.”

California Multicultural Business Development Manager Mercedes Ortiz was among a group of nine associates representing State Farm at the event held in the Millennium Biltmore Hotel of Los Angeles. “Being sponsors of MAOF provides us an opportunity to show our support for the Latino community, whether it be providing business opportunities through agency recruiting or by giving back to the organization/community through MAOF’s various programs and services,” Ortiz said.

According to their mission statement, MAOF’s purpose is to provide for the socio-economic betterment of the greater Latino community of California, while preserving the pride, values and heritage of the Mexican American culture. They do this by providing programs in early childhood education and family services, job training, and senior lifestyle development.
