Not every student can claim to have been taught by a celebrity, but music students at Abraham Lincoln High School in Los Angeles were in for quite a treat when Latin pop artist Gustavo Galindo came to their school.

As part of State Farm’s “Celebrity Music Teacher for a Day” program, Galindo – a singer/songwriter whose debut album has been climbing the Latin Billboard charts – spoke to a group of 50 students on April 15.

Galindo talked about his songwriting process and shared some of what he’s learned about “making it” in the music industry, all while encouraging students to stay in school and drive safely. For many people, music is an essential part of the driving experience, creating a great avenue for Galindo to talk about the importance of safety behind the wheel.

“Having a recording artist like Gustavo Galindo was a very creative way for State Farm to connect with the students,” commented State Farm Public Affairs Specialist Priscilla Orozco. “They were very attentive and engaged during his presentation.”

The “Celebrity Music Teacher for a Day” program is taking place in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, and Dallas in conjunction with the Latin Billboard Awards concert series. As the State Farm featured celebrity, Galindo has teamed up with local State Farm agents to visit music students in high schools and tell his story.

“My office is just a few blocks from the high school,” said State Farm Agent Angelica Campos, “So it was so nice to visit with the students and localize State Farm in a way that’s relevant for them.”

Students from the class, along with music teacher Mark Santos, performed a musical number for Galindo, showcasing the school's great talents. Galindo ended the class by taking questions from students and sign autographs.
