With increasing momentum, State Farm continues its work supporting the State Farm Es Para Mi program. State Farm, in partnership with Ya Es Hora ¡Ciudadanía! hosted a Citizenship Workshop in Panorama City on February 19. Several hundred people attended the event, the purpose of which was to help citizenship candidates, free of charge, complete their United States Naturalization applications.

Ninety trained volunteers were on hand to help, as well as 13 immigration attorneys who provided their service pro bono. They reviewed applications and additional documents to be submitted.

Employees from the office of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration services (USCIS) were available to answer questions about the citizenship process. Ya Es Hora ¡Ciudadanía! helps the more than 8.3 million eligible legal permanent residents get started on the path to U.S. citizenship.

State Farm associates on hand at this event and contributing to this effort were Sherman Oaks Agent Carlos Cornejo, his team members Gloria Barillas and David Castaneda, Agency Field Executive Terry Gordon, and Public Affairs Specialist Samona Caldwell.

On a personal note, Cornejo added, “Being a naturalized citizen myself, I know firsthand how important it is to become a citizen and be part of the legislative process. I feel proud to be affiliated with a company that not only understands how important this process is, but is also willing to provide support through sponsorship of community events like this one.”

There were more than 959 attendees – 450 received packets and 509 were helped with the application process.

A staff member of the NALEO Educational Fund said how proud they were to have State Farm as a partner for this workshop, and added, “Because of State Farm’s generous support, participants received a detailed guide to the citizenship process, and free-of-charge passport photos. Free workshops like these put hard-working, legal permanent residents one step closer to becoming U.S. citizens, and one step closer toward greater civic participation, benefitting all Americans.” However, they added, “Community programs like these are not possible without the commitment and support of partners such as State Farm Insurance.”
