The American Dream is still alive, and Latinos in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles are a little closer to realizing that dream after attending First Time Homebuyer classes sponsored by The Montebello Housing Development Corporation, El Centro Del Pueblo, and State Farm Insurance.

Attendees spent a Saturday afternoon learning about elements of the home buying process, including how to save, how to repair credit scores, what to expect when purchasing a home, and how to properly protect their investment once a home is purchased.

“What an opportunity to serve our Latino community by providing them with information that will help them realize the American dream of homeownership,” said State Farm Agent Ena Alcaraz.

The Montebello Housing Development Corporation (MHDC) is a local non-profit housing organization that serves all Los Angeles County. They partnered with community-based El Centro Del Pueblo, State Senator Gilbert Cedillo, and State Farm Insurance to offer a US Department of Housing (HUD) certified home-buying classes in English and in Spanish for families who want to make the American Dream a reality. MHDC counselors, along with Ena Alcaraz, helped educate families about the important aspects of the home buying process.

Attendees were interviewed by the nation’s largest Spanish-language network, UNIVISION, which covered this important event and aired it on local station Channel 34. Organizers of the event strongly believe that the families served received very valuable information that helps build and invest in the Latino community – a community in desperate need of financial education and services.
