You can tell spring has arrived when thousands of runners and walkers turn out for the annual Human Race, put on by the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County. This year was the 30th anniversary of the nationwide 10K run/walk, and once again the Santa Rosa event was the largest Human Race fundraiser country-wide.

State Farm was once again a sponsor of the Human Race, as it has been for nearly two decades. Seven State Farm volunteers – including Vice President – Operations Shirley Gordon, Public Affairs Specialist Lonny Haskins, Agent Katherine Navarro Wong Team Member Jenifer Week, and Auto Underwriter Justine Barry – manned several water stations throughout the course and provided much-appreciated support for the participants as they made their way to the finish line.

“It’s a great combination of fun and family,” Jenifer said. “You see friends and neighbors, and the kids love all of the activity.”

More than 9,000 participants and 250 volunteers raised nearly $900,000 for charities throughout the North Bay. This amount represented a nine percent increase compared to the previous two years where challenging economic circumstances impacted fundraising results.

“State Farm has been such a great supporter,” said Human Race Coordinator Jan Houts, “They really represent the community spirit that shines with this event.”
