Two SoCal High Schools in Footrace for $15,000 Football Grand Prize

In Southern California, high-flying plays on the football field are giving two schools a shot at $15,000 in prize money.

Eastlake High School in Chula Vista and Yucaipa High School in Yucaipa are two of 26 schools from around the country whose football feats were selected as winners during the first half of Friday Night Feats. The national video contest, sponsored by State Farm Insurance, highlights the biggest moments from the 2011 high school football season.

Each school has been awarded $2,500 for their top play and has a chance to win an additional $15,000 grand prize if they become one of the top 10 finalists and their video is voted as the top play of the year.

State Farm agents are excitedly getting behind the effort of their local schools as well.

“As a State Farm Agent with connections to the school, I am happy to see Yucaipa High School has won a chance to be a finalist for a third year in a row!” said Banning Agent Valerie Menefee.

“I’m extremely happy to see that one of our community schools, Eastlake High School, was chosen as a winner of this great contest,” said Chula Vista Agent Bernardo Vasquez. “As soon as I saw the video, I contacted the athletic director at Eastlake High School and encouraged him to submit it for consideration.”

Fans, athletes and coaches still have a chance to show off their big plays by entering a video during the second half of the contest which runs until November 28. Eligible participants can submit videos at FridayNightFeats.com. Fan votes during the second half will determine which 26 additional schools win $2,500.

At the end of the second half, a panel will narrow the field of 52 eventual winners down to the top 10 videos based on the "wow" factor, athleticism, impact of the play, and creativity of the video. The panel includes MaxPreps football experts Stephen Spiewak, Steve Montoya, Andrew Puccioni, Chris Stonebraker and Blake McFarland.

Viewers have the final word, choosing the first, second, and third place winners by voting for their favorite from December 9 through December 16, with cash prizes for the top videos of $15,000 for first place, $10,000 for second place, and $5,000 for third place.
