Dia de los Muertos

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is an international annual event celebrated on the 30th of October. This year, State Farm Bank, in partnership with the Unity Council, sponsored Oakland’s Día de los Muertos Festival in the Fruitvale Village. State Farm has proudly partnered with the Unity Council for many years to deliver services and events that strengthen the fabric of the local community and help individuals and families realize their dreams.

As the title sponsor of the festival, State Farm asked Agent Jose Cano to represent the company on stage at the opening ceremonies with a few words.

“The Día De Los Muertos Festival was a huge success and could not have happened on a more perfect-weathered Sunday. Thousands poured into the streets of Fruitvale as we honored loved ones through culture, community, and celebration,” Cano said. “My team and I were excited to be a part of such a major event. The families who participated seemed to really enjoy playing Lotería with their local State Farm agents as they clapped, laughed and cheered. It was nice to be given the opportunity to talk with our clients and get to know them more on a personal level and have some fun.”

By 3:30 p.m., over 400 hundred people made their way through State Farm’s game tent to participate in Lotería. Forty-eight winners claimed $1,200 in Visa gift cards and by 4:45 p.m., every last remembrance item had been given away.

State Farm also gave out 1,000 coupons to be used at three local food vendors at the festival and had an aerial banner flying over the event all afternoon.

As the company aggressively seeks to be the first and best choice for insurance, being present and relevant at the major community events is important. This is one of the largest Día de los Muertos community festivals in Northern California.
