Merced Hispanic Chamber Names State Farm as Business of the Year

State Farm gets rewarded.

“Good things are happening in Merced!” said State Farm Agency Executive Kurt Sieve when he found out that State Farm was awarded Business of the Year by the Merced Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Agency Field Consultant Rick Torres accepted the award from the Chamber at a special banquet on November 4. He attributed the recognition to State Farm’s agency recruiting department partnership efforts to be involved in monthly events and functions with the Chamber.

Agency Recruiter Tri Tran agreed. “We dedicated time to work with the Merced Hispanic Chamber and develop key relationships,” he said. “And our effort to promote entrepreneurship in the area speaks volumes that we mean business about investing in the community.”

Their investment is definitely paying off; Tran was excited to share that two agency openings in Merced were recently filled. Two agent interns, Torrey Moe and Justi Smith, will open their State Farm agencies in Merced on January 1.

Representing State Farm to receive the Business of the Year award from the Merced Hispanic Chamber are (from left to right) Agency Recruiter Tri Tran, Solano Agency Team Member Veronica Vega, Agency Field Consultant Rick Torres, Socorro Gutierrez with Los Banos Agent Joe Gutierrez, and Atwater Agent Terry Solano.

State Farm is looking for people with entrepreneurship drive and leadership skills who want to make positive difference in the lives of others. Sieve said that Torrey and Justi demonstrated these qualities, which will help them serve the community.

“As a former agency team member, Torrey is familiar with the agency career and he knows the importance of being community oriented and involved in helping protect people’s future,” Sieve explained. “Justi has been living in Merced for 27 years with her husband, who has a dental practice. So she understands the community and is very well connected.”

Between the efforts of community based groups to promote the image of the city and the growing Hispanic population, Merced shows great growth potential. “The needs are there,” Tran observed. “Demographics signify the population could benefit from the guidance of State Farm agents, particularly in the Latino market, and we feel strongly about meeting that need. We’re still hiring!”
