Project Ignition Revs Up Again

State Farm’s highly successful teen driving safety program, Project Ignition, is now accepting grant applications for the 2010-2011 competition.

Since PI’s inception in 2004 as part of a partnership with the National Youth Leadership Council, awareness about safe teen driving habits has lead to some incredible presentations from high schools across the nation. One of the most valuable and productive aspects of Project Ignition is the format where teens are talking to teens about safety behind the wheel.

Project Ignition has expanded its reach this year to include two tiers of education. Tier 1 is the video presentation where creativity and substance come together to have an impact on saving lives. Submissions will be taken until November 15 and from this initial group, the top 25 schools will be chosen and receive a $2,000 grant. The schools will then further develop their programs with an opportunity to be selected as a top 10 school. Selection into this group will earn the school an additional $2,500 and the opportunity to join other Tier 2 schools the following year.

Tier 2 is designed to take the Top 10 schools from the previous year and form a partnership to build an even broader impact. Eureka High School in Northern California will represent our state this year in Tier 2 after making the Top 10 two consecutive years. Schools have an opportunity to attend the National Service Learning Conference and share their expanded experiences in keeping teens safe on our roadways.
