State Farm® Helps San Diego Students Learn about Entrepreneurship, Work Readiness, and Financial Literacy

In June, State Farm presented a $22,500 grant to Junior Achievement of San Diego and Imperial Counties for youth financial literacy programs including their capstone elementary school program The McGrath Family JA BizTown™. Over the past five years, State Farm has invested nearly $100,000 in San Diego Junior Achievement’s programs.

Junior Achievement is a non-profit organization that seeks to educate and inspire K-12 students to succeed in a global economy by using hands-on experiences that help them understand the economics of life.

The McGrath Family JA BizTown is a San Diego-based, 10,000 square foot simulated mini-city, complete with a city government and 21 life-sized shops. Following several weeks of classroom study, local fifth grade students are invited to participate in a full-day visit to the JA BizTown site and are given the opportunity to put their new skills to use by running their own simulated businesses and interacting with the rest of their community.

In addition to financial support, local State Farm agents and employees also regularly volunteer their time in the classroom teaching financial literacy curriculum provided by Junior Achievement.
