State Farm® is teaming up with Community Empowerment Centers in Los Angeles Metro Area

State Farm Agency Executive Cindy Stronks provided the keynote address.

Agent Rene Hawkins (back center) poses with a group at the Community Empowerment Center in Gardena during the presentation of a check for $7,200.

The Magic Johnson Foundation’s Community Empowerment Centers provide ethnically diverse urban communities access to resources and programming that educate, empower, and strengthen individuals though the innovative use of technology. The centers are now able to provide teen driver safety information and financial literacy courses because of State Farm’s involvement.

There are high hopes the classes will make a difference.

“Thanks to State Farm’s support, we are able to further our work to include financial literacy and teen driver safety classes to students in our city’s urban area,” said Towalame Austin, president of the Magic Johnson Foundation. “Not only will these presentations assist the youth, but also the overall community at large as it relates to safety and economic vitality.”

For State Farm Agent Rene Hawkins, who lives and works in the area, her local center provides a great opportunity for her to be involved in the community from a personal and professional level.  “At State Farm we take our commitment to the community seriously.  Part of this commitment is to make sure youth are financially savvy and educated,” said Hawkins.  “Service to others means really being a good neighbor.”  On behalf of State Farm, she presented a check for $7,200 to the center.

State Farm has been a safety pioneer since its doors were opened, which means protecting our neighbors from the risks of everyday life, especially on the road. State Farm is also committed to increasing financial literacy by giving communities the resources they need to excel in daily life.
