Activities surrounding service-learning are more popular than ever with schools throughout California. State Farm is proud to team up with Youth Service America (YSA) to offer $1,000 grants for youth-led initiatives. Applications must be submitted by October 15 to be considered.

Eligible programs will engage youth in service-learning, an effective teaching and learning strategy that promotes student development and academic achievement. Candidates include teachers, service-learning coordinators and students in a public school, or staff and youth in a community-based organization working with a public school.

YSA encourages all applicants to become familiar with online application before beginning the application process. The organization will host an application webinar on October 7 at 2 pm PST. To register for the webinar and to access the application, visit the YSA page on statefarm.com.

State Farm has long believed that for communities to thrive, young people must be empowered as leaders and decision-makers to address real issues and problems. Established in 2006, the State Farm Youth Advisory Board is charged with designing and implementing a $5 million per year signature service-learning initiative. The board, made up of thirty diverse students from across the United States and Canada, addresses issues important to students, State Farm and communities. Selected by the students, grants can range from $25,000 to $100,000 each, and address issues such as financial education, natural and societal disaster preparedness, driver safety, environmental responsibility, and access to higher education/closing the achievement gap.
