American Red Cross – Southwest Louisiana

The mission of The American Red Cross of Southwest Louisiana is to educate individuals about emergency situations and provide aid in time of disaster. In southwest Louisiana they serve the parishes of Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, and Jeff Davis. They offer their services following manmade and natural disasters including fires, tornadoes and most importantly in Louisiana, hurricanes. In 2008, they delivered services to 408 victims of single family events like house fires, provided 1425 overnight shelter stays, and 358,811 meals and snacks. They also responded with clean up kits and emergency items to the victims of hurricanes Gustav and Ike.

Disaster preparedness and education is important to State Farm, especially along the hurricane prone Gulf Coast. Through association with the Red Cross, we are able to educate citizens on how to prevent and prepare, and how to begin to recover in the event a disaster should strike.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is a worldwide, grass-roots movement with more than 2,100 active affiliates. State Farm supports Habitat affiliates across the country to assist in their mission of providing safe and affordable housing for families in need. In addition to grant funding through our Good Neighbor Citizenship program, we also encourage volunteerism during build days where State Farm agents and associates work with Habitat staff and recipient families to build the houses that our grants are helping to fund.

State Farm Public Affairs in Louisiana recently partnered with associates in our Loss Mitigation department to cosponsor the complete construction of a home in Lafayette, La. Once construction is completed, the partner family is given a 20 year, no interest mortgage and those payments are recycled back into the building of additional HFH homes.

Partnership such as this one is the key to Habitat’s ability to carry out their mission of eliminating poverty housing.
