State Farm Supports Teach for America

The mission of Teach for America is to build the movement to eliminate educations inequity by enlisting our nation’s most promising future leaders in the effort. They recruit outstanding recent college graduates from all backgrounds and career interest to commit to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools. The organization provides the training and ongoing support necessary to ensure their success as teachers in low-income communities.

Louisiana Vice President of Agency, Kim Rollins, supported educational excellence for all children during national Teach For America Week, as a guest teacher at Park Ridge Elementary School in Baker, LA. The guest teacher event was April 26 – Friday April 30, 2010. Local leaders from the Baton Rouge area visited the classrooms of TFA teachers, and taught lessons based on their experience in business, politics, and beyond. Kim taught an eager class of fourth graders, whose classroom theme was “Smarter Than a Fifth Grader.”

“Teach For America's mission aligns with State Farm’s emphasis on education excellence. The corps members do an outstanding job with their classes. I was so impressed by the students' high aspirations. They have goals to become doctors, meteorologists, and even the President of the United States. Most importantly, they are not intimidated by the hard work and dedication it will take to attain their future success,” said Vice President Kim Rollins.

This year in South Louisiana, 150 Teach For America corps members are reaching more than 8,500 students in underserved schools, while over 100 alumni are working from every sector to level the playing field for students and families in low-income communities.
