Beyond Housing

State Farm has a continuing partnership with Beyond Housing/Neighborhood Housing Services of Saint Louis. The mission of the organization is to strengthen neighborhoods, one family at a time. They do this by providing affordable housing, helping families achieve and sustain homeownership, fostering the well-being of families, and identifying and addressing neighborhood needs. Three programs help the organization to provide those services: Service-Enriched Rental Housing, Homeownership Services, and Community Building.

Beyond Housing is a member of the NeighborWorks® Network, a national network of community-based organizations that improves and strengthens communities through cooperative efforts with residents, business people, government officials, and other partners.

American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

The St. Louis Area Chapter traces its beginning to 1884, when Red Cross founder Clara Barton came to St. Louis to provide disaster relief. In the spring of that year, she stood at the edge of the swollen Mississippi River in St. Louis, studying the flood damage. There was no organized relief effort, so she ordered a boat and supplies and, on April 4, she headed down the treacherous waters from St. Louis. Her “life boat” provided badly needed help all the way to Cairo, Illinois and then up the Ohio River.

State Farm directly supports the American Red Cross lifesaving mission by providing funding for preparedness presentations that are available to individuals, businesses, schools and community organizations at no cost. Community Disaster Education programs provide free training for individuals, families, groups and corporations regarding emergency preparedness, and highlight readiness and response guidelines for specific disasters (fires, tornados, earthquakes, etc.). Last year, the St. Louis Area Chapter trained more than 107,000 people through this curriculum.

Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement of Mississippi Valley (JAMVI) is the fifth largest JA Worldwide operation in the United States. They educate young people about work readiness, entrepreneurship, and personal finance with hands-on, engaging programs. Their purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. JA of Mississippi Valley reaches over 127,000 students per year in 5,500 classrooms and afterschool locations. JA programs are taught by volunteers in inner cities, suburbs, and rural areas in eastern Missouri and southwestern Illinois.

State Farm has been a long-time supporter of the Junior Achievement organization. Their programs encourage confidence and motivate young people to achieve their personal, educational, and career goals. These learning experiences establish the foundation upon which today’s students can acquire the skills and aptitudes necessary to succeed in a fast-changing world.

Arson Dog

The State Farm Arson Dog program was established in conjunction with the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in 1993. Twenty seven arson dogs and their handlers from across the United States and Canada came to Columbia, Mo. for a three-day recertification event, sponsored by State Farm. The dogs have been trained to detect petrochemicals (gasoline, kerosene, lighter fluid, etc.) used to start fires. Tests have shown that trained dogs are superior to mechanical instruments in detecting accelerants at a fire scene. The dogs’ abilities reduce the time needed by fire investigators to gather information about a fire.

State Farm’s sponsorship of this program parallels with the values and characteristics it strives for as a good corporate citizen and is a perfect complement to State Farm’s good neighbor values.
