Habitat for Humanity of Summit County receives grant from State Farm

Habitat for Humanity of Summit County (HFHSC) has been selected as a recipient of a $2,500 Disaster Service Grant from State Farm.

State Farm’s Disaster Service Grant provides the opportunity for affiliates and youth to become engaged in the process of preparing and recovering from a disaster. HFHSC’s Youth United Program and Campus Chapter at The University of Akron will use the grant to train in disaster preparedness and response.

The grant will cover training costs such as educational materials, speakers and trainers, and outreach projects and materials. Training materials will be provided by Habitat for Humanity International’s Disaster Response unit. Youth United is a program involving young people ages 5-25 in all aspects of Habitat’s mission.

State Farm and Habitat are providing up to $100,000 in grants for disaster recovery projects that engage youth. In addition to the ongoing support State Farm offices provide to local Habitat affiliates across the United States, State Farm has also served as the national corporate sponsor of Habitat for Humanity’s youth programs since 2007.

“State Farm is committed to building safer, stronger and better educated communities,” said Kimberly Lust State Farm Community Relations Specialist. “We are proud to present this grant with Habitat for Humanity to Youth United at the University of Akron.”
