Flags Lowered for Late Former W.Va. Lawmaker, State Farm Agent

State flags at state facilities across West Virginia were lowered in remembrance of the late former state senator and State Farm Agent Ralph Williams. Acting Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin on Friday ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, according to the Associated Press.

Williams, who died Monday, was 82.

Williams served in the Senate from 1971 until 1986, representing the 11th District. During his tenure, the Democrat served as chairman of several committees, including Finance, Education and Banking and Insurance.

A funeral service was held Feb. 12 at Sewell Valley Baptist Church in Rainelle.
