Minot Schools To Accept $10,000 State Farm Grant

Grant Will Replace Textbooks Lost to Flooding

Minot, ND, Sept. 6, 2011 - Replacing everything lost to flooding in the Minot schools got a little bit easier this week, thanks to a $10,000 State Farm grant to buy new textbooks for Minot students.

State Farm agents Charles Anderson, Michael Braun, Kellie Thorman, and Darrel Hovde will present the grant at the Minot Board of Education meeting beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the board’s offices, 215 2nd St. SE.

This year’s serious flooding along the Souris River caused extensive damage to Minot school buildings and equipment.

“State Farm places a high priority on providing the best education possible for each and every child,” said Duane Richter, Agency Field Executive in North Dakota. “We are pleased to be able to help restore the resources Minot students need to succeed.”

Purchasing classroom sets of textbooks is one step State Farm can take to help ease the disruption students, staff and families will face as school begins, Richter said.

“Minot Public Schools is committed to providing an excellent educational opportunity for all students,” said Mark Vollmer, Superintendent. “We’ve worked hard to have a great start to a school year unlike any other. This grant from State Farm will go a long way in helping our students experience academic success.”

Earlier this summer, State Farm also donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross chapter in Minot to purchase flood cleanup kits the Red Cross made available to the public free of charge. Local State Farm agents volunteered to distribute the kits.
