Thousands of children invited to learn more about staying safe
Cincinnati, May 10, 2011 - The Cincinnati Fire Department is inviting more than 3,000 children to attend a giant outdoor safety fair aimed at teaching participants about fire safety, water safety, bicycle safety, animal safety, and healthy living. The Kids' Safety Fair will bring together students from across the Cincinnati Public Schools district, as well as area parochial schools. "This type of direct safety education to children is critical to our mission," said Cincinnati Fire Chief Richard Braun.
Funding for this fun-filled educational day arrived in the form of a $10,000 grant from State Farm Insurance®. "We are delighted to partner with State Farm whose sponsorship has enabled the Cincinnati Fire Department to bring this event to Cincinnati," said Braun. Multiple community partners will also participate including the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department, D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), the Cincinnati Reds, the University of Cincinnati, local hospitals, other police departments, and other fire departments.
The Kids' Safety Fair will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Yeatman's Cove on the Cincinnati riverfront from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. "State Farm is honored to partner with the Cincinnati Fire Department for this important event because together we share a passion for keeping local families safe," said Deatria Walker, a State Farm Agent. Walker will be on hand, passing out finger print child id booklets and educational coloring books.
See firsthand as students learn how to extinguish pretend fires using a real fire hose and water. Watch children learn how to evacuate a simulated fire in a mobile fire safety house. Educational clown and puppet shows will also take place throughout the day.
