Is reviewing your insurance part of the plan?

State Farm® reminds the public to review their insurance coverage annually

Albuquerque, N.M., September 21, 2011 - During National Preparedness Month this is an excellent opportunity to prepare, make a plan, get informed and review your insurance coverage in the event of a disaster.

Preparing for the unexpected is vital to your ability to respond to emergency situations. According to the website Ready America there are three important steps to protecting you and your family during an emergency: prepare, make a plan and stay informed.

At State Farm, we value the safety of the public and our ability to respond to the needs of our customers. That's why during this month when you’re focusing your attention on being prepared take the time to meet with your agent and make sure your insurance coverage fits your individual needs.

"All too often people purchase insurance and forget about it until they need it," said State Farm spokeswoman Angela Thorpe. "Life evolves and so do your insurance needs. That's why it's imperative to once a year get into the habit of reviewing your insurance coverage with your agent."

Here's some information you can use when reviewing your insurance coverage annually:

• Home Inventory Checklist - Complete this document and keep it in a safe place off the premises. In the event something happens to your home or personal property, you’ll be thankful you took the time completing it.
• Insure your home for at least 100% of the replacement costs to rebuild it. Remember just like gas and groceries, the costs of construction rises over time.
• Insure all of your personal belongings. Did you purchase a new computer, TV or home media center last year? Make sure you have enough coverage to replace these.

"In any case meeting with your agent annually is an important part of being prepared," said Thorpe. "Having a conversation with your agent and understanding your insurance coverage needs can eliminate any surprises."
