Consider a home inventory after fulfilling the Christmas list
Lincoln, NE, January 4, 2011 Now that Christmas has come and gone this may be the ideal time to take a household inventory and make sure that you have adequate protection for big ticket gifts. State Farm® recommends a thorough review of your homeowners policy.
For example, many people dont adjust their insurance after making major purchases like new televisions or other expensive electronics. In fact, a recent State Farm® survey found that more than a quarter of Americans havent taken an inventory of their personal goods in more than two years. Additionally, nearly 30 percent of Americans can't remember or have never taken stock of their belongings.
According to State Farms database, in 2007, the average paid claim for stolen personal property was more than $5,000.00.
We encourage everyone to seek the advice of their insurance agent whenever a major new purchase is made, says State Farm spokeswoman Ann Avery. Homeowners and renters should stay informed about the amount of coverage they have and the value of the contents of their home or apartment.
Some policies place limits on the amount of coverage given to certain items such as jewelry, fur, or firearms, which Avery said is why its so important to pay attention to your policy and consult with your insurance agent.
