Rancho Cucamonga, CA, March 31, 2011 - The State Farm Collegiate Open, presented by ServiceMaster, will make its first appearance in California June 13-15, 2011 at Empire Lakes Golf Course in Rancho Cucamonga. The Collegiate open begins on the 14, where collegiate golfers will play three rounds of golf over two days vying for top five finishes to automatically qualify for the national championship in Fort Worth, Texas.
"While the Collegiate Players Tour was originally set up to provide the average college player an affordable summer competition, we have been blessed with a few players that have made their way to the PGA Tour,” said CPT founder Barry Rodenhaver. “The college coaches for Bo Van Pelt, Ben Curtis, John Rollins and Scott Piercy have all given the CPT credit for allowing these now great players, the opportunity to compete, develop confidence and win. We are proud to be able to provide a venue for collegiate golfers to compete and develop their skills.”
The State Farm Open festivities begin with a charity event on Monday, June 13, where State Farm Agents will be playing a round of golf with Collegians to benefit Claremont West End Auxiliary Children's Fund and the Polio Fund of Rotary International. The event is open to spectators at no charge.
“State Farm is proud to support the Children's Fund and Rotary International and honored to bring the CPT to California,” said George Fisher State Farm Agency Field Executive. “This is a tremendous opportunity for State Farm to connect with the youth across California.”
“ServiceMaster is excited about the opportunity to sponsor the CPT as it aligns with our strong values and corporate objective of helping people develop and build skills that they will be able to utilize throughout their life, on or off the course,” said Mark Bottjer of ServiceMaster. “We are very proud to be associated with the CPT positively impacting both young men and women and their dreams.”
The CPT is sanctioned by the college golf associations, the Men's Golf Coaches Association of America, the Women's National Golf Coaches Association and the USGA. Empire Lakes Golf Course is located at 11015 Sixth Street, Rancho Cucamonga. Of the 96 State Farm Open collegiate golfers competing, ten golfers (five men and five women) will qualify to play at the CPT championship from August 8-11 at the Texas Star Golf Course in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas.
