Media, Pa., July 11, 2011 - State Farm will present a $9,000 Safe Neighbors grant check to the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (PA AAP), on Wednesday, July 13th at 4 pm. The presentation will take place at PA AAP’s offices at the Rose Tree Corporate Center II, 1400 North Providence Road, Suite 3007, Media, PA 19063.
The funding will support PA AAP’s child passenger safety and teen driver safety programming provided by the Traffic Injury Protection Project (TIPP). State Farm has partnered with PA AAP for many years, supporting their child passenger car seat check events across the state with funding and volunteer support from local associates.
This year, for the first time, State Farm’s grant money will also be used to fund safe teen driving kits. The kits will include tools and resources for multiple educational stations that will focus on teaching young drivers about the dangers of distracted driving through a variety of different hands-on activities. A demonstration of the kits will be taking place at the check presentation event.
“Motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death for teens,” said Carolin Irvin, State Farm Public Affairs Manager.“At State Farm, we are out to change that. We are delighted to be working together with our partners at PA AAP to make this unique program available to young drivers across the state, with the help of our local State Farm agents, to provide awareness and education around distracted driving.”
"The PA AAP is thrilled with the opportunity to work with State Farm on the joint goal of reducing injuries and fatalities related to traffic crashes,” said Suzanne Yunghans, PA AAP Executive Director. “The ongoing partnership with State Farm has allowed TIPP to reach families with vital information and materials on child passenger safety. We look forward to our partnership with this new Safe Neighbors grant to continue conducting valuable car seat safety checks in communities in need, as well as reaching teens with safe driving toolkits."
