State Farm® Provides Grant for Summer Teen Driver Workshops

Lewistown, Montana. July 15, 2011 - The Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI) has teamed up with State Farm to help teenagers become better drivers. The Montana DR.I.V.E (Driver In-Vehicle Education) program offered by the Montana OPI will hold one-day teen driver workshops on July 18, 19, 20, in Lewistown, Montana.

“Encouraging teen driver safety is one of our most important commitments at State Farm. Motor vehicle crashes remain the No. 1 cause of death among teens in the United States,” says Daniel Losk State Farm Public Affairs Specialist.

Students pay a $275 registration fee to attend the on day workshops. However, thanks to a grant from State Farm Good Neighbor Citizenship philanthropy program, 36 students will only pay $75 to attend the workshops. Classes are limited to 12 participants with one driving coach for every three participants.

State Farm has been a sponsor of the advanced training classes since 2008 donating over $22,000 to the awareness and advancement of the program.

The workshops provide a great opportunity for teens to gain practice of vehicle control in skidding and drifting off-road situations under controlled conditions. Professional instructors will spend a day with teens to help develop their skills to keep their vehicle in balance and respond safely to driving risks.

The Montana DR.I.V.E. Program puts an instructor in every vehicle so that they can observe all driver actions and provide immediate feedback. Educational research indicates that immediate feedback provides the best learning opportunity,” says (Quote)

The advanced driving workshops will be held at the Montana DR.I.V.E. Track located adjacent to the Lewistown Airport.
