Lexington, Ky. June 16, 2011 - Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens. In 2009, eight teens died every day from injuries suffered in motor vehicle crashes according to a study by the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. State Farm, in partnership with the Fayette County Attorney's Office, is working to change this tragic statistic. As such, State Farm is awarding the Fayette County Attorney's office a $10,000 grant in support of its new teen driver safety school. The hands-on program, taught by retired police officers, teaches teen drivers crash avoidance techniques. "As the largest insurer in the state, we are committed to finding ways to protect our children on the road. We are passionate about teen driver safety at State Farm," said Lexington Agent Debra Hensley.

In addition to the grant award, State Farm is also offering an auto insurance discount to qualified youthful drivers who successfully complete this new driver education program. "State Farm is the first insurance company to come forward to offer this type of incentive for program participants. It speaks volumes about State Farm's commitment to teen driver safety in Kentucky and I am grateful for the partnership," said Fayette County Attorney Larry Roberts.

The program's inaugural class graduates on Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Lexington Police Department located at the intersection of New Circle Bypass and Old Frankfort Pike. A check presentation from sponsors begins at 3:30 p.m. on the outdoor driving pad with the class beginning immediately afterwards.
