Mt. Vedder Project to Receive $5,000 Grant
Steps will include posting signs that describe current fire danger information to the general public. In addition, the project will continue work on a network of shaded fuel breaks and fuel reduction zones that will minimize danger and damage if a wildfire impacts the area. Fire maps indicate the area of Lakoya has the most population density per acre in the county. Public meetings will be scheduled to help educate local residents on what they can do to assist in preventing widespread damage.
The project area is made up of single residences or small clusters of homes located in areas marked by steep slopes, narrow winding roads, boxed canyons and a variety of vegetation that include heavy timber, chaparral brush and oak grasslands; all providing fuel for wildfires.
The grant from State Farm is made possible through their Good Neighbor Citizenship program. Prime areas of focus include education, safety and community development.
