Preparing Before A Wildfire Starts Key To Personal Safety And Protecting Your Property

State Farm Insurance® reminds the public to prepare for the upcoming wildfire season.

LAS VEGAS, Nev., (March 16, 2011) - This year's unseasonably wet winter may keep fire restrictions at bay for a while, but before long things will begin to dry out, the temperatures will spike, and the winds will kick up and the wildfire season will be upon us. Therefore, it is important that homeowners in wildfire prone areas take steps now to protect their property.

"It's important that the public follow fire restrictions when their imposed," said State Farm spokeswoman Angela Thorpe. "We're reminding the public, well before conditions are ripe for a fire they need to protect themselves and their homes by creating a defensible space."

Take your wildfire risk seriously before a fire breaks out. Here are some steps you can take to prepare.

More tips for preparation, precautions and related links about what to do during and after a disaster can be found at statefarm.com/learning center.

You can view a true consumer story from the Boulder, Colo., Four Mile Canyon Fire of 2010 on YouTube, which shows how preparation saved a family's home while neighboring homes burned to the ground.
