High Tech High School Student Is Winner of the Every 26 Seconds Campaign

Freshman Gabe Garcia is the Grand Prize Winner. Come join the party!

Who:

Grand prize winner Gabe Garcia, a freshman at High Tech High in Chula Vista, is serving as host for the party. He was chosen from those teens completing 5 of 8 online activities during the past school-year to bring the party to his community. In addition to getting to host the party, he will also receive an iPad. The goal of the 26 Seconds campaign is to help increase high school graduation rates, by raising awareness of the alarming statistic that every 26 seconds a young person drops out of high school.

What

The BMOR Project is the Facebook activation of the 26 Seconds Campaign. Presented by State Farm, the campaign is raising awareness of the staggering statistic that every 26 seconds a teen drops out of high school. By engaging teens online, via 26seconds.com and on Facebook, the message is to BSEEN, BHEARD, BYOU and BMOR (be more) than the statistic. 300 teens (invited by Gabe, HTH and other Chula Vista community organizations working to increase local graduation rates) will enjoy an exclusive outdoor/beach-themed event. A DJ will play music as backdrop to activities like human hamster balls, bungee trampoline, a simulated surfing inflatable, and an obstacle course. Attendees will also have a chance to create a photo flip book with their friends and get henna and airbrush tattoos and enjoy a Mexican food buffet and ice cream and snow-cone bars.
