Artist will be at Moises Molina High School on April 10 to talk about music, and safer teen driving
Dallas, TX, March 28, 2012 - As part of the State Farm 2012 “Sounds of mi Vecindario” campaign, State Farm brings back “Celebrity Music Teacher for a Day” in partnership with Latino singer/songwriter, Gustavo Galindo. The program brings together high school music students to raise teen driver safety awareness through music education with the purpose of inspiring our community’s youth.
A kick-off event will be held at New York City's DeWitt Clinton High School on April 4. "Celebrity Music Teacher for a Day" is taking place throughout 2012, beginning in four markets in April including New York, Dallas, San Francisco and Chicago.
Galindo will be in the Oak Cliff area of southwest Dallas area at Moises E Molina H.S. Tuesday morning, April 10.
Also, as part of the year-round music campaign, “Sounds of mi Vecindario”, Galindo will conduct special appearances in April’s Latin Billboard Music Awards, summer’s Premios Juventud and the Mexican Billboard Awards in the fall. The “Celebrity Music Teacher for a Day” program will continue in various markets throughout the country, including Los Angeles and Miami, surrounding the additional award shows through the year.
"I am honored to rejoin State Farm in their 'Celebrity Music Teacher for a Day' initiative and have the opportunity to meet, and positively influence our young artists," said Galindo. "I was certainly inspired by so much talent among our high school music students around the country when I visited with them last year. I can only look forward this year to once again working alongside State Farm agents to continue educating a new group of students."
State Farm agent of Dallas, Edgar Martinez will introduce Galindo to the students at Moises Molina High. State Farm’s Community Liaison, Michael Hidalgo Grimes, will also serve as a host for Galindo during his visit at the school.
In the community liaison role, Grimes stated, “This program aligns very strongly with our promise to help build safer, stronger, and better educated communities. We are especially pleased to have Gustavo Galindo, again, in this program after last year’s success. It is also very important to have someone with celebrity status to speak to teens about safe driving practices. This issue and needsafer teen driving habits and awarenesscontinues to be a great need across the nation.”
The lesson plan includes an overview of Galindo’s song-writing process, key learnings about "making it" in the music industry, and a live acoustic performance. Working hand-in-hand with the schools’ music teachers, Galindo’s visits have been structured to be entertaining and motivating, while encouraging students to drive safely and stay in school. At the end of his performance, students will have the opportunity to ask questions and enjoy an autograph-signing and photo session with Galindo.
State Farm spokesperson, Gary Stephenson, stated, “We are grateful to participating schools, such as Moises E Molina High, that have granted us the opportunity to be on campus with this program, and motivate their students to be more responsible, as well as not losing sight of their dreams.”
