Carrollton's Creekview High School Works to Change Peers' Behaviors about Safe Driving
Dallas, TX, May 25, 2012 - Students at Creekview High School in Carrollton are working to reduce risky driving behaviors that lead to motor vehicle crashes, the number one killer of teens. Earlier this year, Creekview Highwas awarded a $2,000 Project Ignition grant to implement their “Good Habits + Careful Driving = Arriving Alive” safety education campaign.
Project Ignition is a service-learning program sponsored by State Farm® and coordinated by the National Youth Leadership Council®.
Creekview was selected through a competitive process as one of this year’s top ten Project Ignition campaigns from across the United States and Canada. As a top ten campaign winner, Creekview’s Project Ignition team will now receive an additional $5,000 to support their participation in the National Service-Learning Conference® in the spring of 2013 in Denver, CO. In addition, they are also eligible for a $2,500 grant to implement a yearlong project during the next school year.
Creekview High School principal, Joe LaPuma said, “Awareness and sustained education regarding safe driving behaviors are such important initiatives in today’s high school culture. I am grateful to State Farm and the National Youth Leadership Council for funding this important grant which will have a lasting impact on our campus.”
“Congratulations to Creekview High Schoolfor this wonderful accomplishment,” said Michael Grimes, State Farm’s community liaison in Dallas. “We are grateful for students like these who, through Project Ignition, join us in promoting teen driver safety.
