A Touch of Understanding Receives $73,000 from State Farm
WHAT: A Touch of Understanding (ATOU), located in Granite Bay, California is a 2012 recipient of a State Farm Youth Advisory Board grant. ATOU will receive the grant during a presentation at the organization's upcoming AccessToCare Fair, this Saturday April 21st.
ATOU is using the grant to reach out to more school children through its disability awareness program, distribute enrichment materials to area students, provide supplies for monthly Youth F.O.R.C.E events, and support outreach to volunteers. Due to its quality programs, the organization is growing in notoriety. ATOU is one of the programs that the Sacramento County School District is using in its bullying prevention programs and will soon be profiled on PBS television.
The State Farm Youth Advisory Board is a diverse group of 30 youth, ages 17-20, who were chosen through a competitive process to lead and oversee this $5 million/year signature service-learning initiative. The Youth Board identified the issues, issued competitive grants and will now provide technical assistance, communication and oversight to site grantees.
The Access ToCare Fair is this Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
