Better Business Challenge

Charlottesville, VA (June 21, 2012) - On June 21, State Farm® was selected as the Kilowatt Crackdown winner in the Better Business Challenge in Charlottesville, Va. State Farm was nominated for three awards, and won the award for energy efficiency. The Charlottesville Operations Center has an Energy Star Rating of 96.
The Better Business Challenge is a friendly competition among businesses in Charlottesville to increase sustainability practices in the business community. The 106 businesses who participated in the Challenge focused on opportunities to reduce costs and lessen their impact on the environment in the areas of energy, waste, water, purchasing, and leadership. For each action item businesses completed, they received points on an online scorecard.
Some of the sustainable practices in place at the Charlottesville Operations Center are a recycling program, a green roof, bio filters, printer consolidation, double-sided printing, company-provided reusable cups, hybrid company cars, vanpools, efficient lighting fixtures, and more.
