$5 million in Service-Learning Grants Now Available

Youth Advisory Board Continues to Make A Difference

Bloomington, Ill., February 14, 2012 – The State Farm® Youth Advisory Board (YAB) has made its 2012 service-learning grant application available. Five million dollars will be granted to quality, youth-led service-learning initiatives.

Grants range from $25,000 to $100,000, and Request for Proposals (RFP) must be submitted online by May 4 at 5 p.m. CST. Complete details and contact information are available at www.statefarmyab.com

Each grant request must focus in one of these issue areas, chosen by the Board:

  • Community safety and natural disaster preparedness
  • Accessing higher education/closing the achievement gap
  • Financial literacy
  • Environmental responsibility
  • Social health and wellness

To be eligible to receive a grant from the YAB, applying organizations must be a public K-12, charter, or higher education institution; non-profit organizations are also eligible if they are able to demonstrate how they plan to impact student achievement in public K-12 schools.

As of June 2011, five years after its initial launch, the YAB has awarded more than $20.7 million in grants to organizations in the U.S. and Canada and impacted more than 14.1 million lives.

Thirty high school and college-aged youth oversee the granting of $5 million for student-led service-learning projects in the United States and in the Alberta, New Brunswick and Ontario provinces of Canada. The process is unique in that youth are given full responsibility and resource decisions.
