Grambling, LA., February 2, 2012 - Project Ignition is a student-led teen driver safety program funded by State Farm in coordination with the National Youth Leadership Council. The program was developed because car crashes are the No. 1 killer of America’s youth. With a little help from Project Ignition, Grambling High School students are working to change that devastating reality.
Students will partner with Engineering and Criminal Justice majors from Grambling State University to design and implement a community-based safe driving program. The goal of the program is to increase awareness about the life-affirming aspects of safe driving. The name of the Grambling Lab campaign is: “Youth in Action / Community Initiative Squads (YIA/CIS): Safe Driving Project”.
If their safety campaign is selected at the end of the school year as one of the top 10, Grambling student project team representatives are eligible to receive additional funding (up to $7,500) to extend their campaign and to participate in the National Youth Service Learning Conference in Minneapolis, MN, where they will showcase their leadership in teen driver safety education campaigns before the top teams in the nation.
