State Farm Awards $30,000 Grant to Junior Achievement of New Jersey

Grant to Support High School Heroes Service Learning Program

Plainfield, NJ, April 4, 2012 - State Farm® Insurance Companies awarded Junior Achievement of New Jersey a $30,000 Education Grant to help support High School Heroes, which is a multi-tiered service learning initiative that will be implemented in the communities Plainfield, Trenton and Camden. Through the High School Heroes program youth receive a powerful curriculum-based volunteer opportunity, full circle role-modeling and gain exposure to business development.

“Junior Achievement programs inspire at-risk youth to stay in school, provide work readiness skills training, and plant the seeds for these impressionable students to strive for higher education and careers,” said Junior Achievement of New Jersey President Catherine Milone. “Together, we can teach kids lifelong skills that empower them to own their economic success and prepare New Jersey's youth to succeed as productive members in this global economy.”

The High School Heroes initiative is comprised of four key service learning projects/phases. Throughout each phase of the initiative, participating students are able to interact with corporate community partners to learn about problem solving skills necessary for the work place, serving/volunteering in communities, corporate business environments, business development and several other experiences that will equip students with the skills needed to frame their future careers and fulfill their aspirations in life.

“Youth are the future of business and we need to prepare them to succeed in complex and newly developing professions,” said State Farm Agent Deseral Neal. “State Farm is proud to support the High School Heroes program and we applaud Junior Achievement for educating and enriching the lives of youth throughout New Jersey.”

Each year State Farm awards grants to non-profit organizations, governmental entities, and educational institutions for programs that help make communities safer, stronger, and more educated.
