State Farm Helping Customers Impacted by Lower North Fork Fire

Representatives on site working claims and answering questions

Denver, Colo., March 28, 2012 - State Farm has received a handful of claims today for those impacted by the Lower North Fork Fire and has representatives at evacuation centers working claims and answering questions.

“We’ve been at the evacuation site since last night and we’re answering a variety of questions,” said State Farm spokesman Isaia Aricayos. “The most important thing at this time is for those in evacuation areas to safely leave their homes. Once evacuees are safely settled, we’ll work with them to answer questions and help them with your claims.”

Below are some common questions and answers regarding homeowners insurance:

How do I report my homeowners claim?
Policyholders can report claims to their agents, online at statefarm.com or visit claims in the evacuation center (now located at 9449 South Barnes Avenue, West Jeffco Middle School).

If the authorities evacuate me from my home, where can I stay until I am allowed back in?
A homeowners policy provides coverage within the Prohibited Use section for additional living expenses that a policyholder incurs as a result of this wildfire evacuation for up to two weeks. This may include motel and food expenses. This coverage is subject to the deductible.

Does my homeowners policy provide coverage to clean up the slurry dropped on my home?
Yes, damage caused by slurry, smoke, water and fire are covered losses subject to your deductible.

Does my policy provide any coverage for my pets if I am evacuated as a result of the wildfire?
Yes, if emergency officials ask residents to evacuate their home, the cost to temporarily board pets is a covered expense under the “Prohibitive Use” Coverage, subject to the deductible within the policy.
