Indianapolis, Indiana (December 12, 2012)
A local Shortridge High School student, John Paul Davis (JP), with his older brother and legal guardian, Reuben, by his side celebrated Christmas a little early this year. In October, J.P was surprised on the syndicated Anderson Live show with a 2013 Chevy Sonic in recognition of his achievements. But, in October, JP didn't have his license yet so he had to wait to collect his gift. That time has arrived and on Wednesday December 12th, he will drive home in the official car of firsts.
The brothers were flown to New York two months ago to be on Anderson's show to share their story. Davis, who tragically lost both of his parents, is considered a role model at Indianapolis' Shortridge Magnet High School because of his leadership abilities and community involvement.
Shortridge is a one of a kind facility in Indiana that prepares students not just for careers in law and public policy, but also teaches students the importance of being socially active in these areas. Students also take Latin, Chinese or Spanish, Speech and Debate along with college level courses at Butler University for college credit. Shortridge also got a surprise on the show receiving a gift of $100,000 to use at their own discretion.
Anderson Live partnered with State Farm Insurance to provide this exciting opportunity to the deserving teen and school in honor of State Farm's Celebrate My Drive® program.
On Sept. 15, State Farm brought communities together to celebrate new drivers at more than 400 Celebrate My Drive events – making it North America's largest-ever simultaneous gathering of new teen drivers. Celebrate My Drive takes a different approach to teen driving safety by sharing positive driving habits and experiences rather than focusing on the more traditional approaches that often scare new drivers. Fourteen high schools across the U.S. and Canada who rallied teens around the Celebrate My Drive initiative each won a $100,000 grant from State Farm. For a complete list of all the Celebrate My Drive $100,000 grant winners, go to www.celebratemydrive.com.
